The Boomerang Trainer features a large wing area and a docile semi-symmetrical wing section. A great performing RC trainer with original Australian trim - highly visible colours.
With it's huge wing area and semi-symmetrical wing section gives the newbie an easy and forgiving flight. In the fuselage the R/C compartment with pre-installed servo tray allows for virtually any make of servo/receiver and battery combination. A bright colour scheme helps make attitiude recognition easy in flight. For the experienced pilot, use the Boomerang to have sport fun at weekends and practice some new manoeuvres without risking your upmarket or scale models.
The model is immaculately factory-built, covered and decorated to get you into the air as fast as possible. As with all Seagull Models, a comprehensive fully-illustrated manual is included too and is written in comprehensible English. I have built three of these models made in Vietnam by Seagull Models. Wing is secured to the fuselage by heavy duty elastics for easy dis-assembly for transport.
The model illustrated here was purchased from Channel Four Models and came in a large box some 1.4 mtrs long. This model came in a deal which included a SC 46 engine.
The model is priced around £65 GBP but many model shops are offering a discount deal which will include an SC .46 engine for about £112 GBP.
Build quality was found to be very good. The only parts that required glueing together was the main wing halves, tail fin and stabiliser to fuselage after cutting away some of the glossy covering to ensure good adhesion. All main parts came neatly wrapped in plastic bags and the small components and tank came in plastic packs too. The Manual is minimal with images but this model is so simple that really the manual is adequate for builders with a little experience.
A couple of items that I must mention - Purchase a pack of 6 inch heavy duty rubber bands to secure the wing, the supplied ones are not really up to the job! Also you will need four 25mm x 3mm bolts and Nylok nuts to secure engine to the supplied mounting. If you are using Futaba standard servos you will have to make the servo tray holes a little larger by about 1 mm all round.
I would recommend this model as a first plane because of it's stability. Ideal for new pilots or something for more experienced pilots to throw around the sky to try out new maneouvres.
Needed to Complete - 4 standard servos (aileron, elevator, rudder/steering, throttle). 40 - 52 size glow engine. Battery pack 4.8v (recommend AA flatpack), rc receiver (minimum 4 channels), 1 servo extension lead (receiver to wing mounted servo (ailerons).
Pros and Cons
- Excellent value for money
- Fast Assembly - True ARTF
- Stable flyer
- Main wing very strong but fuselage a little weak after the rearmost radio compartment bulkhead. (Can be modified simply enough)
- Quite light so not so good in windy conditions
- Noseleg bends to easily even on gentle landings (on grass) Easily replaced in the field!
