Scale Day Hit by Weather

Latest News

Sunday morning saw grey skies, varying degrees of rain and a brisk wind to boot.  The next question was will it go ahead?  Yes it did!  James managed to get the BBQ going - finally.  The rain had reduced somewhat to intermittent light drops so those members and visitors although greatly reduced from previous Scale Day events swooped on to the bacon as soon as it was frazzled!

Members of Salisbury club attended to brave the weather along with the die-hards of Wimborne.  Spirits were still high although slightly dampened.

With a rather brisk wind from the northwest Kevin (SMFC) started the flying by puting his biplane into the air.  Followed swiftly by Electric Rick's  Sea Fury.  These flights didn't last long as the heavens opened up again.  A quick landing, eveyone covering up with plastic sheet and running for the Pavilion.  More laughs and jokes to brave off the dismal weather.  Not to worry, in the distance was a patch of blue sky.

Lunchtime, ie; the burgers were now on the BBQ, the weather giving us a decent size window, time to get some flying in.  Kevin (SMFC), Tom (SMFC), Mike (WMAC), Rick (WMAC) did manage to get some flights.

WMAC members bravely attended were Stuart, Ray, Mike and his wife, Phil F, Rick, David T and of course the organiser, James.  SalisburyMFC members were Tom and Kevin.

After David Tappin had turned up Rick was able to repair the wing tip of his hand-launch Spitfire with David's supply of epoxy.  Good ole David!  David assembled his hi-wing model but never got to fly it.   Had to disassemble it in the Clubhouse when the rain returned.  Mike also brought a lovely Mosquito EP which flew too but had a rather bumpy ride as the wind was now picking up to 12mph, gusts to 20mph and had swung round to the NNW.  Rick launched into the wind and the Spitfire EP just seemed to hover for ages before moving forward.  Kevin did a few more flights with his  bright yellow biplane which also seemed to standstill when put into the wind.  Tom had a flight or two with his warbird but the weathere forced him to keep his other models grounded.

Stuart, Ray and then followed by David went home but not before giving some votes towards the likely winner of the Scale Day Trophy.  James asked everyone for their vote before making a decision on the winner.  It was difficult as there were not many scale models although there were stand-offs.  After some deliberation James and I decided it would be best for judgement to go on the flying.  With this in mind, including the others who had left opinions, the award should go to the pilot with the most  daring flights asnd determination.  Therefore the results were:

Kevin (SMFC) 1st.

Electric Rick (close 2nd)

Mike (Runner -up)

Kevin was over the moon and was looking forward to waving it around at his own club members with glee.
