Bygone Days 2010

Latest News

flight lineThe 20th year of Bygone Days held at the old RAF Ibsley was held August 7th and 8th.  Although Saturday again decided to play games with regards to the weather, sun, light shower, on off etc, a good number of the public visited and watched the full size and model aircraft displays.  With intermittent low cloud too the Red Arrows were unable to fly over on their way to Swanage  for an air display.

However, later than planned we were treated to a Pitts Special, a 1939 Jungmann Biplane piloted by Annabel, a Spitfire/Hurricane display and the Yakolevs aerobatic duo.

Sunday however proved again to be the best day weatherwise, higher cloudbase, long periods of warm sunshine and virtually no wind at all.  The full size aircraft were on time as planned.  So, over the two day period we were treated to a Spitfire Mk1X, Hurricane, Biplanes, Harvard and a DC3.

In the picture (right) starting from the foreground are some of the WMAC models to be seen over the weekend.  Flying Tigers -Tomahawk - Dave Rogers, P51D Mustang - Simon (Crikes A'Mighty the Third) Super Chipmunk - Phil Ford, P51D Mustang (Miss Helen) Phil Ford, SE5a Biplane - Phil Coupe, Cessna 182 Skylane - Phil Ford and just partly out of picture an F16 turbine powered jet - Dave Bright.  Also present was Jon's big Extra and three Sebart Angels belonging to Jon Tappin, Pete Mumford and Dave Bright.

Salisbury Club also had a good collection of Scale models and Warbirds, Helicopters by Align and Biplanes including a giant scale biplane.

Bygone Days has been running now for 20 years and it's sole purpose is to raise funds for local charities.  Around the event area visitors could view classic cars, tractors, motorcycles and steam traction engines.  There were many stalls selling items in support for local charities, food, toys and memorbilia.  There was also a band playing tunes from yesteryear and wartime. the Sunday proved to be the busiest day as more people are not at work plus the fine weather.

Video's of the full size and model aircraft seen flying will be available shortly.  Below are some of the photos taken by members over the weekend.

Looking forward to next year where we can put on an even more spectacular display.
