On Friday evening, 10th February, Club Night, we will see a demonstration flight of a rubber-powered, indoor, 13” span free-flight model. If there is enough interest, some kits will be made up and Holt Parish Hall booked for a build evening, when we can all create our own model ready to fly at the next Allendale meeting of Bournemouth Model Aircraft Society in Wimborne on Tuesday 28th February.
Indoor free flight rubber jobs are not exciting high speed shockies, but they are relaxing, fascinating and rewarding. You really learn about trimming for stability and how to attain long flights. This model, the Serene by Richard Preston, will easily attain 40 second flights. A small prize will be awarded for the one with the longest duration.
If anyone has very small models similar to this, bring them along.
A retrospective look at 2011 and a forward glance to 2012. Well, 2011, apart from the weather, has been a great year for the league events. The number of pilots participating have increased in all of the events, even mini speed. One new venue, at the Marlborough Club, was added to the programme.
After a week of wildly changing weather not unusual for the UK at this time of year, Saturday the 17th was forecast to be mostly sunny in North Dorset. However, having made plans to hit the slopes at WinGreen, it looked like it was going to be a no go as dawn broke with no wind at all.
November has entered it's first week bringing forth high winds, rain and fog. But this time of year has it's benefits because the wind direction leans more to northerlies which has the benefit of using WinGreen for some serious combat flying aka slope soaring. Albiet you may have to dress up in attire more adapted for an Artic Expedition.
