The Training Scheme
We are proud to be able to offer training facilities which are given by volunteer instructors, subject to their availability to nearly all age and gender groups. Our instructors are masters of the art with split second reactions......
Under the guidance of the training instructors members with little or no experience can learn to fly on the Club's own aircraft on buddy-box radio control equipment until such time as they are able to pass the necessary proficiency test with their own model to allow them to fly unsupervised.
Fly with 'Uncle...'
Members are also permitted to fly with their own aircraft whilst they still hold a
provisional (RED) membership card, provided they have an ‘Uncle’ (a fully qualified pilot)
at their side when flying. This is the easiest way for new members to gain the maximum amount of flying hours since uncles are more readily available than instructors at this time. The club can provide buddy box equipment to suit most types of mainstream radio gear allowing new flyers to have the 'safety net' of dual controls.
1. Trainess should telephone the instructor on the day between 09.30-10.00 in order to establish if training is taking place and to 'book in'. Please do not phone instructors to book training outside of this time.
2. Usually, a training session will comprise of 3 flights per trainee.
3. For each flight under tuition, a flight voucher (obtainable from training admin) must be given to the instructor
4. Vouchers are priced at £1 each therefore £1 = 1 flight.

British Model Flying Association

The Club's training scheme is not the same as the BMFA scheme, therefore it allows you to fly unsupervised at our club only. To gain your A, B or C cert, a separate test will need to be carried out by a BMFA examiner. For information or to express interest in taking a BMFA cert, post on the forum or use the contact form.
How to get on the Club scheme
If you are a red card holder or new member interested in learning through 2012, please make yourself known to me (Phil Ford) as soon as possible so I can get an idea of how many training sessions we'll need to plan for 2012. Best way to do this is by posting on the training forum.
