An Introduction: Indoor Flying a great and fun alternative when the weather is inclement. Using small super light aircraft powered by electric motors or even rubber bands and helicopters the yearly "stick time" can be increased.

What do I need? What can I use?
Indoor flying is the opportunity to keep those skills up during the winter months when Cashmoor is too cold, and you simply don't want to risk losing your fingers, or irreversibly attaching them to the frozen gate or pegboard! Oakmead sports hall isn't overly large, so the shockflyer type aircraft are designed light and agile to help avoid the walls. The majority of the time, 3D type manouvers are ideal for indoor flying, however you don't have to be able to do this; you can still fly circuits, pull loops and rolls, figure 8's and so on.
The Shockflyer
Shockflyers are made from a DepronFoam - 3 or 6mm. The models are usually of profile type, using carbon rods for bracing/reinforcement and control rods.
Power
A selection of small, powerful brushless motors are available to power these models. Which motor you buy will be influenced by your choice of Lithium Polymer (Li-Po) battery either a 2 or 3 cell setup.
Electronic speed controller (ESC) - You'll need a brushless speed controller matched to your motor that will accept the Lipo pack you choose to use.
Battery - Lipo cells are used for their excellent power to weight ratio. Lipos used for shockflyers are either 2cell (7.4v) or 3cell (11.1v). A capacity of around 700mah is ideal for power to weight. 2c setups are lighter than 3c.

Radio Equipment
Micro servos and a micro 'parkfly type' receiver will be needed. The smaller and lighter the better.

This is only a short, brief description - for further details or more information, please asked at our online forum, or visit your local model shop.
