I would like to start by thanking
everyone who organised the Slim Gregory Funfly, it was a great
day! The sun stayed out for us with only a few spots of rain
in the afternoon.
Being new to the Wimbornemac, this was my
1st time at wmac club fly in. I got to Ashley heath for 10am
and people were already setting stuff up and working away!
I thought ok I will just keep back a bit from the action and
spectate and blend in slowly!, then Jon T came around and
asked if I wanted to enter the comp, 'hmmm ok' I said some
what sheepishly :), so much for blending in quietly!
Not actually ever having flown in any type
of comp I wasn't to sure what to expect, so after a quick
glance over the sections for the day I was sure I wouldn't
do to well!!
1st Round 'Touch and goes',
ok my turn came and I fired the saito up and the banchee was
off! Wow 3d rates nearly finished it before it started!, quick
flick and back under control :) , Well I got 10 t&g's
in 90 secs, wow! amazed myself, but the banchee is the right
plane in funflys! oh and the landing tore the undercarriage
out!! back to the pitts for some C.A lovin!...
2nd Round 'Timed Flight' - Each Pilot was
given a set time in which to perform a set of moves and land
as close to there set time as they can!... 3 stall turns,
a spin, and a loop I think! I lost count after about 45 secs
and did 2 rolling harrier circles which took about 20 secs
and came in! Without a clue of the time, 85 secs was my target
and I landed on 84.4 !!! total fluke but I can live with that!
3rd Round 'Cone taxi and
balloon pop!' , This was allot of fun! A bit like 'One man
and his dog!' I had just got back from some tree climbing
getting Tony's piper cub back! When Jon said 'you're up!'
OK taxi through 3 sets of cones the dash to the middle and
pop the balloon!, Cant remember how fast I did it but it was
great fun!, Ray's Lazy B without its wings was class!! pure
class!.
(DB- Just like to point out that I didn't
want to rush this one! I think some of you may have picked
up on that vibe!?)
4th Round 'Spot landing'
The name says it all! 3 sections on the ground, 30 point box,
then a 10 point box, then another 30 point, I think! sure
that's how it was :) well I hit the 10 point box :), I think
most others got the 30!
Well with all the rounds over I was sure I
had been whooped by Dave Gorrin with his Leccy pitts biplane.
That thing was awesome and managed 15 touch and goes!
Well to my total surprise when the pilots
gathered round for the results, I won! I was amazed! I really
thought that the leccys had beat the Glows!!!
So now I have a shiny new Vmax46pro engine
to find a model for! Congrats to Dave Gorrin for coming 3rd
place and Ross for coming in 2nd, A fine effort by all the
pilots who flew and gave the spectators much amusement!!!
The BBQ and beer was well received by the crowd!, A big thank
you to the people who made that all happen. You must forgive
me for not knowing all your names yet! They will sink in with
time :)
For those that didn't make it 'SHAME
ON YOU' !!!! You missed a great day with lot
of laughs and great flying, with Jon T's Su31 stealing the
show with an awesome demo flight! Great job Jon!
Well that's how it went for me! Thanks to
all who have made me feel welcome in the club! It can be tuff
joining a new club!!!..
Jim Lacey.
