W.M.A.C GENERAL FLYING SAFETY
GUIDE
1. On arrival at the flying site, carry out the
frequency control system before switching on your transmitter.
2. Ensure that your model is structurally sound.
3. Check that your model is correctly rigged and
that all flying surfaces are true and free from warps.
4. Check for correct "orientation" of
the control surfaces.
5. Carry out a "Range Check" as described
by the manufacturer of your equipment.
6. It is advisable that a pennant, to indicate
wind direction, should be attached to the transmitter aerial.
7. BEFORE attempting to start your engine,
- Remove the transmitter strap from around your neck.
- Check the tightness of the propeller nut.
- Check that there are no loose objects or trailing wires near
the propeller.
- Ensure ALL spectators are in a position BEHIND the model.
- Secure your model with an effective restraint.
8. Having started the engine, open the throttle
wide, then hold the nose high and adjust the mixture as required
to achieve even running. This minimises the risk of an engine cutting-out
after take-off.
9. Before taking off, fully extend the transmitter
aerial. Check that no other aircraft are taking off or are on their
landing approaches, that there are no pilots on the runway, and
that all is clear ABOVE and BELOW you.
10. As soon as your take-off is complete, return
to the flight line so that you do not obstruct others.
11. On landing (except in an Emergency) make a
"rectangular" approach, keeping a watchful look-out for
other models and people on the ground, and clearly call out twice
"LANDING ".
12. Having landed, stop the engine, switch off
the receiver and transmitter and return to the pits.
