The Wimborne M.A.C. was first formed in April 1973
by Reg and Pauline Hutchinson, the proprietors of the local model
shop - The Hobby Horse - and John Henney. All those who had shown
an interest in the idea were notified of a meeting which took place
in the George Hotel, Wimborne, with some fifty people attending.
A committee was elected, subs were set (25p) and a flying site was
found. Unfortunately this site was lost after only a few months.
The club has grown over the past 25 or so years with membership
of between 125 and 150.
The Club (WMAC) has been established for some considerable
time with membership of between 125 and 150 over recent years.
The Club has two flying sites and is negotiating a third one for
slope soaring only. The largest power site is on the A354 between
Salisbury and Blandford Forum. Scale and National Aerobatics competitions
have been held at this site. The second power site is near Ringwood
and the slope soaring site is between Shaftsbury and Blandford Forum.
.
Meetings are also held at 8pm on the second Friday of every month
between September and May at Holt Parish Hall and at one of the
power sites on June, July and August. Full site location details,
Club constitution and rules are provided in the Members Manual,
which is issued to all new members.
We consider we have the best training
facilities in the area!
